 Overview

This will be the third matchup between Geno's UConn Huskies and Jamelle's Cincinnati Bearcats. UConn won the first two games handily even with Geno doing what he does against his favorite former player that he coaches against. He slows it down, subs regularly and tries not to embarrass her. The problem is that this UConn team struggles to keep the score down, they are so explosive.

Cincinnati beat Central Florida 76-66 behind the great three point shooting by Makenzie Cann. The 6' freshman was 6-9 on threes and scored a career high 23 points. The game was close with Cincinnati leading 12-10 five minutes into the game before the Bearcats went on a UConnlike 29-6 run before taking a 43-24 lead at the half. Central Florida made a nice run in the second half, twice cutting the lead to nine points but they could not get any closer than 8 with a few seconds left before Cincinnati closed it out.

UConn is coming off four days between games after beating South Florida to complete another perfect AAC season. And to top it off, they had four players on the 1st team, one on the 2nd team, one on the 3rd team, defensive player of the year, most improved player, sixth player of the year, two players on the all-freshmen team, freshman of the year, coach of the year and player of the year.....WHEW!!!!

 Game Analysis

Not much has changed. Cincinnati is starting four guards and one forward. They have two guards off the bench but they look like only Cann will get minutes. Coach Elliott played a lot of zone in the two previous matchups and will try to force UConn to the outside as much as possible. That can be like playing with fire if UConn is hot from the outside, but it's their only option. They don't have enough height to play much man defense. UConn will fast break at every chance before the Cincinnati defense can set up.

Cincinnati has a couple of talented players in Marley Hill and Ana Owen. Cann had a terrific game against Central Florida with 6 three pointers and she is 13-22 from beyond the arc her last three games.

Sadly for Cincinnati, the talent discrepancy is just too much for the Bearcats to handle. It just won't matter what they do. Like the first two games, UConn will just run it's offense, take the best available shot and then defend the hell out of the ball on the other end.

Cann's new found outside shooting might be fun to watch, but you know Geno was watching. the rest of the team still can't shoot and are not good passers. They will not do well against UConn's pressure defense.

Final Prediction

65 point win for UConn in the first outing. 60 point win for UConn in the second outing. I just can't see it being much different. Geno won't be thinking about taking it easy on Jamelle when he has the rest of this tournament to prepare for and the NCAA tourney after that. Geno knows that three games in three days can tire out even the fittest of teams. So expect a lot of bench minutes.

I'll go with UConn by 55 this game as Geno will rest the regulars.
