Days until Florida!!!!

Well, that was fun. I don't think I have enjoyed a first half like I did in UConn's 83-58 big win over South Carolina. I'll quickly say that the second half was not as much fun, but that doesn't take away from how dominant UConn was in this game. I thought they got just as many good shots in the second half and just didn't hit them. I'll go into more detail about that in my Post Game Report.
I have to admit, they dominated a little more than I thought they would, although I did think my 15 point margin was too low. When I knew that Spann was out, I thought UConn would be able to control the South Carolina offense and they certainly did that. Their team defense on Wilson was terrific. They forced her into 4-18 shooting and held her to 14 points. She was terrific on the boards and defending the paint, but UConn's front line dominated her with Collier and Nurse.
A side note. Dawn Staley deserved several technical fouls for walking past the coaches line. She constantly did that, complaining to the refs about several calls. She has a right to complain, but the line is there for a reason.

Lots of top 25 games Thursday Night. A few comments on the interesting games.
No. 12 Tennessee vs No. 14 Texas A&M was an interesting game. Kudos to the Lady Vols for their big fourth quarter where they dominated and pulled away for an 82-68 win over the Aggies. A&M was in the game behind two players, Lumpkin and Carter, but when their game went south in the second half, no one else was able to pick up the slack. Tennessee is a great front running team and showed that again as they just ran away with it behind seniors Russell and Nared. The freshman Hayes had a great offensive game with 16 points....well, except for her 6 turnovers.
No. 10 Florida State was upset by North Carolina State 65-56. I guess with NCST being at home and being a decent team, it was not that much of an upset. I think Florida State will be dropping a few spots in the poll.
No. 13 Michigan had a 12 point lead heading into the fourth quarter against Purdue and then managed to only score 6 points in the last 10 minutes. They were scoreless in the last 6 minutes and 48 seconds of the game. They were 0-6 with 6 turnovers in that timeframe. And they committed 5 fouls as well. A crazy finish to the game. Purdue tied the game with one second remaining in the game but then a Purdue player inexplicably fouled a Michigan player on the inbounds play for two free throws with that same one second still on the clock. Yeah, you guessed it....they missed them both and the game went into overtime. Purdue took the lead in OT with 28 second left and Michigan missed a game winning shot with 1 second left for the 81-79 Purdue win. Another upset!
And in the last upset of the night, LSU fed off of their win over Tennessee on Sunday to come back to beat No. 17 Georgia 71-60. Two top 25 wins in two games. Not bad Ms. Fargus. Not bad at all.
No. 2 Mississippi State visited No. 15 Missouri and did not look like the No. 2 team in the country in the first half. They were down 34-25. But they came out like gangbusters in the second half and pulled ahead midway through the 3rd quarter on a 15-4 run finally taking a 43-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Mississippi State played tough at that point, scoring the first 5 points of the quarter. It was back and forth for a little while in a very physical contest. The refs let just about all incidental contact go. Mississippi State went to their big girl, McGowan for their first two baskets in the quarter plus a foul shot for all of their points in the first seven minutes. With a two point lead for MSU, Mississippi State missed a shot and McGowan rebounded and fell to the ground. Hard to say if that was a travel at that point, but it wasn't called. The Tigers coach stepped on the court to complain and a technical foul was called on her. Bad timing. Vic Schaffers little girl hit the two free throws for a 51-47 MSU lead with under three minutes remaining. Another clear traveling call was missed by the refs leading to a foul on Missouri and two more free throws for MSU. The Tigers his a three and then stopped MSU with 13 seconds left to set up a game tying three point shot. Coach Schaffer took two timeouts to freeze Missouri. Well, all that did is confuse his own team as they left Cunningham open and she drained it to tie the game at 53 with nine seconds left. Vivians then his a jumper with 2.8 second left to give MSU the 55-53 lead. after a time out, Missouri was called for an offensive foul and after 2 free throws, Mississippi State held on for the win 57-53. Whew!
