Days until Florida!!!!

At times, this game was painful to watch, but UConn persevered, winning this game 55-37.
This game went pretty much as I expected. The tough defense and deliberate offense of UCF would keep UConn's scoring down some, but UConn's talent, offensive execution and defensive toughness would make this game a blowout.
The first quarter had several great passes by all five players leading to baskets and a nice job breaking the press. The UCF press is relentless, but UConn was able to navigate it with pinpoint passes. The highlight of the 1st quarter was UConn's defense. They did just about everything you can ask a defense to do. They stole the ball, they created three 30 second violation, they created a 5 second count on an inbound play, they blocked several shots, they switched as if they were dancing, you name it, they did it in holding UCF to 4 first quarter points in leading 21-4.
The second quarter was not as smooth on both defense and offense. While she played ok, Walker in the lineup made a difference and in not a good way. I noticed her missing a couple of defensive assignments that led to a basket. She was tentative in not passing to couple of wide open players. And she missed a couple of chippie baskets. Not terrible, but she can do better. As usual, UConn scored late to take a 37-12 lead at the half.
The third quarter went exactly as UCF wanted. It was sloppy, chippie, and discombobulated. It even got the mild mannered Gabby Williams a technical foul. Geno asked the ref what she said and he replied "she said 'that wasn't a f***ing foul'". Gabby!!! By holding the ball for 25 seconds every possession, UCF was able to hold the highest scoring team in the country to 11 points and 27% shooting. Amazing. It's not a fluke that they are one of the best defensive team in the country. The highlight of the quarter was the three quarter shot at the buzzer by Gabby Williams. Well, almost at the buzzer.....darn it! UConn outscored UCF 11-8 in the quarter for a 48-20 lead.
After a couple of early fourth quarter baskets by UCF, UConn turned up the defense again but their offense continued to struggle. I can't remember so many close in baskets being missed. That's just a product of the type of game being played. The Huskies kept turning the ball over creating UCF points. But the score was always going to be low scoring as Central Florida never tried to score enough to win in the half court, they just gave UConn a lot less scoring opportunities for the full 40 minutes. Amazingly though UCF went on a 13-2 run at the of the game to close to 55-37. Wow.
A game like this shows how much Crystal Dangerfield means to the UConn offense. She would be breaking that press and creating easy baskets if she was out there. Hopefully, the time off will have her ready for the rest of the season.
This is the kind of game everyone has to forget about. The players, the coaches and especially us fans. I forgot about it already....what game???

David was at the game so I'm sure he will have something to say later. But for now, here are a few numbers for you.
The nations best offense had the following -
55 points for the game.
11 points in the third quarter.
7 points in the fourth quarter.
18 points in the half.
All four of those are season lows.
Kia Nurse was 0-4 from the field and 0-3 on threes.
After talking up how great the seniors were playing, Kia and Gabby had 3 points each.
They did have a few good numbers -
16 assists for 18 baskets.
Gabby had 8 assists, Katie Lou had 5.
Collier had a double-double with 11 and 12.
UCF was 0-11 on threes.
Here are David's late breaking numbers -
Tonight’s numbers are not fun. That was one ugly game.
4 = threes made
7 = points in 4th quarter
11 = points in 3rd quarter
18 = turnovers by UConn
Almost not worth the cost of gas to drive to Orlando...almost...

This is David's son Christian, a UCF grad that got his dad tickets for this game.
He had to sit through this with David. Poor guy.
Good lookin' kid. Looks nothing like David!
