I don't know. Maybe I'm just spoiled watching UConn basketball. The first half of the Mississippi State/South Carolina game was just horrid. The score at the half was 29-28 MSU. South Carolina won the first quarter, 20-10 and MSU won the second quarter 19-8. Ugh!!
Two players on each team came to play. For South Carolina, Wilson was 7-10 and scored 18 point of their 28 points. Vivians had 20 points for MSU out of their 29 and was 7-15.
The third quarter was just as ugly. South Carolina outscored MSU 16-10 and three of the SC points came on a three point bank shot by Cliney for the 44-39 South Carolina lead. Vivians scored ONE point in the quarter. Mo William picked up the slack for MSU with 5 points.
The fourth quarter started all Tigers. Schaefer and Vivians both hit three pointers in a 10-0 run giving MSU the 49-44 lead. Staley called a time out to stem the tide. It didn't help as after another minute Schaefer hit another three for a 52-44 lead. The Gamecocks cut it back to 5 with a three pointer by Spann, who had missed the UConn game. But it was clear by then that South Carolina had no offensive game plan to get back into the game. There was a double technical play where both teams went 1-2 from the line. Over the last 3 minutes, South Carolina would miss and then foul Mississippi State. Rinse and Repeat.
Mississippi State outscored South Carolina 28-9 in the last quarter for the 67-53 win. Excuse my language but what a shit show. Wilson, Vivians and maybe McGowan were pretty good in this game and Schaefer hit a couple of timely threes. But overall, not a lot of talent throughout both rosters. I'm much less concerned with MSU after watching them again. They play great man to man defense but I think UConn (this time) would pick them apart.

UConn has now scored 2,008 points in 22 games. That is an average of 91.3 per game. The scoring continues to be balanced with Kia leading at 348 points with Napheesa right behind with 341 points. Also in the 300 club is the "disappointing" Azura with 318 points in just 483 minutes. Katie Lou is coming on strong with 293 points and Gabby is 5th at 234. Don't forget Crystal at 227 points. That makes six players averaging in double figures for scoring. That has not happened in the last five years.
In addition to all the scoring, UConn leads the nation in assists. The Cincinnati game saw 32 assists on 39 baskets. Gabby leads the team with 109 dimes, followed by Crystal with 90. But, even the bigs have racked up the assists. Pheesa has 68, Katie Lou has 57 and even Z chipped in 47 assists. Kia has 64 to go with her scoring lead. As a team, the Huskies have 498 total dimes, 64% of their 778 baskets.
The best scoring period is the 1st with 583 points. That averages 26.5 pts in every game. The 3rd period is close with a total of 536 points scored. Not surprising, the 4th period is the worst with "only" 422 points scored. While scoring the most in the 1st period, UConn gives up the Fewest points in that same period. Opponents have only tallied 279 against the fresh Huskies. The average lead is 13.8 points per game after the first 10 minutes. It only gets worse for opponents after that...
Go Huskies..!!
More on the play of Azura, whom some have called "disappointing"...
1. Inside the 3 pt arc, Z is shooting 70% (128-183).
2. On free throws, she is leading the team at 80% (44-55).
3. Her 171 rebounds are 1 behind the leader. (Gabby)
4. Z has 42 blocked shots vs 44 fouls.
5. She has 47 assists and only 26 turnovers.
Hard to see why any UConn fan would not be very, very happy..!!
