Here is my UConn/South Carolina Post Game Report.

As a freshman, Kia Nurse started 36 of 39 games. She took 130 three-point shots and made 53 or 40.8%. The next season, she took 138 threes, but made only 37%. Last year, as a junior, Kia made 73-158 threes or 46.2%. This year, she improved her shooting % to 50.4% with 57 makes on 113 shots. Since the 3 point line wasn't moved, it can only be practice that improved her shot so much. Or maybe it was practice, practice, practice... 8-)

When she was a freshman, Gabby Williams had 50 assists in just 591 minutes. As a sophomore, Gabby had 51 assists in 708 minutes of playing time. Last year, as a starter, her assist total was 190..!! After last night's game, Gabby sits at a team-leading 102 assists. Remeber her woeful free throw shooting freshman season? She went 42-91 or 46.2%. Well, this year she is 29-41 or 70.7% from the charity stripe. Again, the line didn't move, so it must be hard work and practice.

UConn's two seniors are having their best season and the reason is obvious. They have practiced until their talent is almost perfect. They lead by example and the example is hard work and practice.

Part II

Further analysis on the South Carolina victory shows some interesting facts about A'ja Wilson's performance. For example, after 10 minutes of play, Wilson was 3-7 from the field and had 8 total points. During the rest of the game, she went 1-11 with only 6 points. What happened..? Better defense, conditioning issues, frustration...? Maybe all of those... 8-)

During the critical 2nd period, when UConn outscored SC 29-8 to open up a 29 point lead, Wilson took just 3 shots, making only 1. Interestingly, she had 3 of her 4 turnovers in that critical part of the game. Her teammates did not pick up the slack, missing 8 of 10 shots and committing 6 fouls. South Carolina scored 8 points, 4 by Wilson and 4 by the rest of the team. That probably explains the frustration...
