Doggy's Doghouse 2/23/18

I know how concerned you all are about me, so I'll let you know that I'm feeling much better. Not 100% but I did manage to play 18 holes today. I played like I never saw a golf club before, but at least I was out there. But any time I get to play with my son and one of my best friends, well, it's a great day!!! Now off to Dallas Friday to see my sister for the weekend and celebrate her grandson's Bar Mitzvah. Might be tough blogging much, but you know me....I'll do my best!

So much conversation on the fact that Megan Walker and Mikala Coombs sat out the entire Tulane game. I don't get involved with these kinds of topics. Geno is the coach, he is extremely successful with how he does things, so whatever he does is fine with me.  I'll leave the second guessing to the coach-couch experts.

Lots of top 25 games, mostly ACC, Big Ten and SEC games as usual on Thursday night. So far all games went as expected except No. 13 Maryland lost again. The Terps lost their third consecutive game to an unranked team, getting handled by Michigan 71-65. It looks like Maryland has really hit the skids.

All the SEC games went as expected and I'm sure that the Lady Vol fans are off the wall celebrating their team's big win over 11-17 Florida. But in doing a little scoreboard watching, the SEC lived up to it's reputation of being the gang that couldn't shoot straight. Check this out!!!

Tennessee - 2-17
Florida - 2-18
LSU - 1-11
South Carolina - 2-10
Arkansas - 6-27
Auburn - 2-7
Georgia - 1-13
Alabama - 4-20

Of course, there is always exceptions to every rule or reputation.

Texas A&M - 9-14
Vanderbilt - 10-22
Missouri - 14-29
Mississippi - 9-20

And I might as well give out an UGGY award on this great SEC performance occasion.

Thursday night, No. 19 Georgia was able to outlast Alabama in overtime 49-43. Yes, even in an extra five minutes of play, neither of these teams were able to reach 50 points.

For the game, Georgia shot 33.7% from the field, 7.7% on threes, and had 27 turnovers. Alabama did their part as well, shooting 23.7% from the field, 20% on threes and had 21 turnovers.

That's 48 turnovers and 17 assists. I can't believe they tortured the fans with five more minutes of this horrible display of basketball. Congrats Georgia and Alabama. You really earned my UGGY award.

By David in Naples!!!!!

There were lots of Fun Numbers in last night's 91-47 victory over Tulane. For starters, it was UConn's 50th straight road victory. That is a record over the 2nd place 34 game streak, also by UConn. Here are some other highlights:

1. Napheesa and Azura went a combined 17-19 or 89.5% from inside the 3 pt arc. They scored 45 total points. Tulane scored 47 all game.
2. Tulane had 17 turnovers in the 1st half and only 7 baskets. Defense for the Huskies was superb.
3. The Huskies had 29 assists by nine different players.
4. Katie Lou led the team in assists and rebounding..!!  :o
5. Kia Nurse blocked 2 shots and now has 12 for the year. She had 11 in her first three seasons.
6. Tulane's leading scorer, Kolby Morgan, was held to 15 points, 7 below her average. It took 20 shots and free throws for her to reach 15 pts.
7. The bench minus Z (Bent, Irwin, Camara and Gordon) played 38 total minutes and took 1 shot. (Kyla made it.)

Another strong 1st quarter defensive effort led to a 21 points lead and held Tulane to 7 points in the first 10 minutes. Game over... 8-)

Go Huskies..!!
