Head to Head games
This is the first meeting between UConn and Wichita State women's basketball teams
Overview
Wichita State is playing in their first season in the AAC and the first time playing against UConn. I'm not sure that any team can be prepared to what the Huskies bring to the table. And as good as the men's team has been (top ten at times), the women's team has really struggled.
It was a tough start for the Shockers. They lost their first 6 games of the season, including pretty close game with Tennessee losing 68-56 and by 24 to Oklahoma State, the two ranked teams they have played. The rest of the season to date Wichita State is 10-9, not too horrible. They have been a very streaky team, winning 2, losing 2, winning 3, losing 4, wining 5 and then losing their last three coming into the contest with UConn. Their big win was a 64-56 victory over South Florida. Yep, the Shockers shocked them. Sorry. In their last game, they lost to Cincinnati 75-69. Looking at the scores, WSU was in most of the games they lost. They are not a good team, but not a terrible team either.
UConn is coming off a painful win over Central Florida, beating the Knights 55-37. The game was really tough to watch. But, I'm over it. And I hope the Huskies are as well. They are still undefeated and still No. 1 in the country. I have a feeling UConn will score more than 55 points in this game.

Wichita State Head Coach
Keitha Adams
Keitha Adams was named the Wichita State Head Women's Basketball Coach on March 29, 2017.
"We are excited to welcome Keitha Adams to Wichita State University as head coach of our women's basketball program," said WSU Athletic Director Darron Boatright. "I admire her experience in various levels of basketball and believe it has prepared her for this opportunity. Keitha has worked extremely hard and has earned everything that coaching has provided to her."
Adams, an Oxford, Kan., native and Southwestern [Kan.] graduate is leaving UTEP after 16 years as head coach to take over at Wichita State. She also coached at Independence [Kan.] Community College, Winfield [Kan.] High School and Belle Plaine [Kan.] High School.
"Today is a very special day in my life," Adams said. "I'm extremely excited about being the head women's basketball coach at Wichita State University. I'd like to thank President John Bardo, Darron Boatright, and Linda Hargrove for this opportunity. I'm a small town Kansas girl who grew up watching the Shockers. I'm honored to now be a part of this great University!
"I'm excited to work with our players to build special memories in Charles Koch Arena that we will all cherish. I look forward to sharing my passion for this great game with Shocker fans, my friends and my family. Go Shocks!"

Game Analysis
It's always tough to do a game analysis when you haven't seen UConn's opponent. I was able to find a video of them playing South Dakota and while I didn't watch the entire game, I watched enough to get a feel for how the Shockers play.
WSU is not a huge team, but they do have start three forwards that play big. 6'1" senior Rangie Bessard is a strong player in the paint. A little slow up and down the court, she has good hands and can finish around the basket. 6'2" senior Angee Tompkins looked to be a solid player. She doesn't always start but she does get her minutes. She moves well and has some nice spin moves in the lane. The other forward is 6'2" junior Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage.
The Shockers start two diminutive guards, 5'5" senior Diamond Lockhart and 5'5" senior Kiki Thompson. Both are good ball handlers and have terrific assist/TO ratios. Neither one shoots well from long range and Thompson doesn't take many at all.
Off the bench, Wichita State brings in a 5'2" senior Aundra Stovall and 5'7" senior guard Jeliah Preston. They pretty much rotate with the starting guards.
WSU plays exclusively a man-to-man defense. With the smaller guards, it will be tough for them to handle the bigger UConn players like Nurse and Samuelson. They like to double on the ball when it's passed to the post and the guards like to jump on passes into the lane. UConn can take advantage of that with ball fakes and back door passes.
On offense, I was impressed with the motion that WSU uses to get open shots. The problem with them is they don't hit many of them. They are not a good shooting team, especially from deep. They know it too, as they only take around 13 per game, hitting 26% of them.
I'm not sure how UConn will come out. Some of that depends on Dangerfield's status. And how will they react to being handled so well by Central Florida. My guess is Crystal plays, UConn pressures the hell out of WSU and comes close to doubling their output from the UCF game.
I don't think I've seen a poor performance by UConn ever followed by another poor performance. In fact, they usually play with incredible intensity. I expect that again.
This game, at home for the Huskies, will be one of those games that we say after "damn, they are good". Being home to practice, follow their routine, get to classes and just have a normal life will allow UConn to be UConn.
UConn by 40+.
