Geno, this is Barrett. I'm not happy.
Get these girls playing like they should.
Yes, I know, you are doing your best.
DO BETTER. Bye.

I re-watched the early part of the UConn/UCF game and let me tell you something. Central Florida played some hellatious defense against UConn. I mean, serious kick-ass defense. Now, UConn didn't necessarily handle it well, but I'm not sure how many teams could have scored many points against the Knights the way they played. Granted, the officials helped them as they didn't call all the fouls.
Sometimes, we fans only look at what our team did wrong and not what the opponent did right. I say give credit where credit is due. UCF was terrific defensively in this game. I'm not sure they will face a more intense defense this season. That is, until February 22nd when they meet again.
Here is my UConn/Tulsa Pregame Report

I posted a few weeks ago about the three point shooting improvement for Anna Makurat with her three point shooting. The article from the Courant that I linked about her trip back to Poland has her latest stats.
"Consider this: Despite missing the first 11 3-point attempts of her career, Makurat has made at least one trey in each of UConn’s last 11 games. Her 3-point percentage in UConn’s first five games was 10.5 percent (2-for-19). Since then? 19-for-39, or 48.7 percent."
Wow. So overall? 21-58. She is up to 36%. Way to go Anna!!!
It's rare that there is a game where we have a true UGGY outcome. Where BOTH teams are so bad the award goes to both teams.
When it's two teams that I really don't like, well, that is nirvana!
Duke sent Notre Dame to the bottom of the ACC barrel at 1-5 in the conference .5 games ahead of 0-5 Pittsburgh. The Irish drop to 6-12 on the season that has fallen into the depths of hell. Ok, I exaggerate but visit the NDNATION message board and maybe I'm not!
Duke is no great shakes, but they are 3-3 in the conference and middle of the pack is good for them. Sad state of affairs in Blue Devil land.
Ok, back to the game. Let's first look at Duke.
The Blue Devils were just awful in this game. They shot 36% from the field. Not the worst of the UGGY recipients, but there's more. They were 4-17 on three's for 23%. And they were a horrid 6-17 on free throws. Seriously bad. The kicker for me was that they had 25 turnovers. On their own, an UGYY award would have been warranted.
Notre Dame was even worse. They shot 28% from the field, 5-22 on threes for 22%. They did shoot 6-7 from the foul line but not enough attempts to bring up their performance. Amazingly, they had 26 turnovers. Really really bad.
So between the two teams there was enough really bad play earn their UGGY. I have enough trophies for both of them.

Can anyone tell me what the purpose is for the UCF players tucking in their shorts so they look like diapers? It's just a really bad look. I don't get it.

It is oh so easy to complain about UConn's recent play from the comfort of your couch, in your living room, at your house. Try analyzing the Huskies play from their vantage point.
1. UConn returned from a trip to Dallas to prepare for the biggest game of the season against Baylor on ESPN.
2. The team fought hard for 35 minutes before losing in crushing fashion with a lousy 5 minute stretch to end the game.
3. The Baylor loss was Thursday. Barely time to recover, Houston game was Saturday.
4. Recover Sunday and after one day of practice, they headed to Tennessee to play Memphis on Tuesday.
5. Tough game, then on to Florida to play UCF on Thursday. Brutally tough game with 37 fouls.
To review. Four tough games in one week. The last three after a crushing loss to Baylor. Two on the road with no return to home in between. In four games, 123 fouls were called. Imagine how many fouls weren't called. Gee, I wonder why the team looked a little tired and sluggish against UCF.
Go Huskies..!!
And.......
Before anyone blames the schedule makers for this 4 games in a week fiasco, understand it is intentional. Geno tests the team throughout the regular season to prepare for the tournaments. (Plural) The AAC tournament is usually 3 games in 3 nights. The NCAA tournament can be up to 6 games in a compressed timeframe.
So, did the Huskies find a way to win the last two tough games, on the road, when they were tired and beat up? Yes..!! That is the whole point of the schedule..! They were tired, playing a physical team and their shots weren’t falling. But they won..!! It doesn’t matter by how much, just like in the tournaments..!!
