Last seasons game highlights

Here is the box score for that game

Megan Walker led the team with 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Similar to her stats for this season. It would be nice to see a similar game this year.

Team Overviews

Tulsa has had a pretty tough season so far. Against a very week schedule, they are only 5-12 and 0-4 in the conference. Here is their RealTime RPI so far. They played

Their only wins have been against RPI 213, 246, 242, 253 and 230.

UConn is coming off a really rough 4 game stretch losing to Baylor and after a good bounce back game against Houston, two tough road games against Memphis and UCF. I mean TOUGH. The team really struggled in the last two games but managed to do what they had to to win.

 Game Analysis

Another game where I can't find any video on the opponent so I don't know a few things that I like to see before writing the analysis. I have no idea how they defend or their offensive tenancies.

So this "analysis" will be more of a reading of stats from the box score. Sorry it can't be more insightful!!

It's easy to see that 6'2" sophomore foward Kendrian Elliott is the star on this team. She is averaging a team leading 15.6 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per game. She is so dominant on her team, the next highest scorer is 5'8" senior guard Alexis Gaulden at 8.6 per game and the next highest rebounder comes off the bench in 5'10" Destinee Lewis at 4.5 per game. Lewis has missed the last four games but rumor has it she could be back for this one.

Tulsa as a team has some really really weak offensive numbers on the season. They only shoot 36.9% from the field. That's the lowest number I've seen for a UConn opponent this season. They also only shoot 28.9% on threes, another really low number. They rebound poorly, grabbing 34.6 per game and allowing 41.2 per game. Their assists/to numbers are not horrible. But still bad. They average only 13.1 assists per game and 16.2 turnovers per game.

Elliott does have 26 blocked shots so I would imagine she might get one or two in this game. But UConn behind Nelson-Ododa, has a height advantage and it will be tough for Elliott to cover Olivia. Richards off the bench for Tulsa is the only other size on this team but both her and Elliot are not strong enough to keep Nelson-Ododa off the boards and from scoring inside.

I expect UConn to try to feed ONO and look for hard drives to the basket by Walker, Williams and Dangerfield. I would be we see valuable minutes from Griffin in this game as well. Pound it inside with kickouts to open players sound like a formula for success.

Final Prediction

UConn has been in a big shooting slump that is eventually going to end. Will it be this game? I have a sneaking suspicion that it will be.

I'm doing my part by posting a full Pregame Report again. I've been posting short ones in my daily blog the last few games. Clearly that wasn't helping.

The defense is getting better and better and that does not bode well for the scoring inept Tulsa team. And they don't have the players to play anywhere near the defense that has been thrown at UConn the past two games. Add in this being a home game and couple of days in between games to get things going in the right direction and it's a recipe for a big offensive game for UConn.

I'm going to guess a 35+ point win. I'll keep posting big numbers until it happens!!!!
